1st day of Kindergarten

Jennifer started Kindergarten!  Where did the time go?  She was so excited to finally be going to school.  The weekend leading up to school starting, she would chase Penny around the house saying, "Penny I'm in Kindergarten."  Over and over.  When I was grocery shopping, she would go up to random people to tell them she is in Kindergarten.

We went to her back to school night and Kindergarten assessment last week.  We picked up her first homework - which is a paper that tells all about her, and has a blank body outline that she is suppose to color/fill in to look like her.  The instructions said we could be creative and use whatever we want to fill in the body, as long as it's not food.  I took Jennifer to the store and she picked out different colored glitter, pipe cleaners, and google eyes.  She had so much fun creating her person.  Aubrey kept on telling her how beautiful her picture turned out.
It was sunny, and she just wanted to run and play.  We are suppose to drop her off in the Kindergarten gate and she plays until her teacher calls her to line up.
I got her to place her backpack on the class "line" but she wouldn't wait for me to take another picture with her eyes open.  She took off and was on the playground.  She didn't even hug me!  I'm glad she is so independent and excited for school.  Watch out teacher!  She is SPUNKY.
Zac picked her up after class, and the first words were, "Can I come back again tomorrow?"  It was a success.

1st day of 5th grade and 3rd grade

The kids started school this year at Fox Hollow Elementary next to Dad's house.  This is the same school that Dad broke his wrist at during our family Memorial day baseball game.  Eric has Mr. Smith for 5th grade.  Apparently he is good, because Eric's neighborhood friends all told him that he was lucky he got Mr. Smith.
Aubrey has Mrs. Avis for 3rd grade.  I was more worried about Eric making friends than Aubrey.  Eric though made tons of friends immediately.  Aubrey is being really shy.  I wasn't expecting that out of her.  The first day of school she even missed lunch because she was sitting in the shade by herself.  The rest of the week went better and she started to come out of her shell.  She asked some girls if she can play with them during recess.  She has a lot of people commenting on her earrings.  The picture above she is wearing jellyfish earrings because Spongebob likes to catch jellyfish.  The next day she wore lion earrings and a bird shirt - because birds like to sit on lions.
Jennifer had her Kindergarten assessment this week.  She is in morning Kindergarten with Mrs. Taylor.  She is so excited to start Kindergarten!  She chases Penny around telling her over and over that she is in Kindergarten.  She will start on Tuesday.  She got her first homework where she has to tell about herself.  She needed to attach a picture, so Zac snapped a couple pics of her so I could print one off.

Summer Recital

Aubrey had her summer recital for gymnastics today.  We had to braid Aubrey's hair into a bun so it would stay put. Aubrey's best friend Katelyn is in her class. They have been best friends since they were 18 months old.

 These 2 girls are inseparable.
They have worked so hard over the year.  They were really excited to get a medal.

I tried to upload some videos, but they didn't work.  She did a great job!  We are so proud of her.

Hobble Creek Half Marathon

We ran the Hobble Creek Half Marathon again this year.  I was so tired this morning.  Because of Zac's mustang breaking down last night and getting home so late, we didn't fall asleep until after midnight.  We had to get up at 4 am for the race.  Also, we were at the Utah County Fair from 2:30-9:30pm yesterday.  Neither of us drank a lot of water during the day and it was HOT.  We also ate fair food.  Needless to say, we decided to run this race for "fun" instead of getting a "personal record."

Zac decided to run with me and promised he wouldn't criticize how fast/slow I was going.  He did really good and was really supportive.  I definitely didn't break my record, but we finished it faster than my first half marathon.  We ran a slow and steady 10min/mile pace.  We finished exactly at 2 hour 10 min.  Not a time we are proud of, but we are glad we ran it.  The race is so beautiful.  I think we would have done a lot better if we weren't feeling dehydrated even before the race.
We didn't have any time to walk around after we finished.  We had to rush back to take Aubrey to gymnastics.

Utah County Fair

Zac took the kids to the Utah County Fair on Thursday to check out their Lego display.  While he was there, a lady told him about the car show that they were having from 3pm-9pm Friday night.  I was able to get off work early, and we headed down in the mustang.
We got there about 2:30 pm and was able to get it registered for the show.  We had several hours to kill.  We really should have brought 2 cars so I could take the kids back early.
Zac wanted to socialize with all the car folk, so I took the kids around the fairgrounds.  They had these balls that would float on water.  The kids had so much fun in them.  Lily would start rolling in them.  They were so fun to watch.

After the water balls, we went to the reptile show.
They called Aubrey on the stage!  She was so excited.  They let her hold a black ninja snake.
She was a little unsure of the snake.
They only called up 3 kids out of the audience.  She was really lucky they called on her.
After the show we checked up on Zac.  Still talking to all the car folk.
The kids got bored of that really fast so I took them on a couple rides.  Lily didn't quite understand that she needed to get into a potato sack.  She immediately took off down the slide.
She loved it and wanted to go again and again.
The other kids had fun racing each other.
 This was another slide/jungle jim.
I gave in, and let Jennifer and Lily go on a ride.

Then we headed to the petting zoo.  They were able to hold a bunny and a baby goat.

We still had a couple hours until it was time to go.  Zac wanted to stay and wait for the awards.  He had won a tumbler cup earlier in the day in the raffle.  I took the kids to the rodeo.  They had fun for the first hour, but grew tired of it.
We headed back to see Zac.  They had these little tractors set out.  Lily figured out how to turn it on!  We had to run over and stop her before she pressed the gas.
It was finally award time.  They did one last raffle drawing and Zac won the grand prize!  He won a pancake air compressor.  He was so excited.  Everyone around us started laughing as he tried to put it in the trunk.  It didn't fit!  We had to open the box and disassemble it so that it would fit.
There were about 80 cars in the show.  They gave out awards to the top 10 cars, and gift cards to the Best in Show.  They did the top 10 cars first.  They called out Zac's name 2nd!  We were so shocked!  The kids started cheering, they couldn't believe we could actually take one of those trophies home.  Not bad for Zac's first car show.
We were almost home on the freeway when Zac's alternator went out on the mustang.  It completely shut off - while we were on the freeway!  He had to coast it to the side, then get out and push.  It was so dark outside and busy.  It was about 10pm, and we were only 1 exit away from home.  We called Devin, and he left a recording session early to come help us.  Devin came and got Zac and took him home.  Zac took the battery out of the van and came back and put it in the mustang.  It started up and we finally made it home around 11:30pm.  While Zac went with Devin, I stayed with the kids in the mustang.  We had 2 UHP troopers pull over to see what was going on.  Jennifer thought they were stopping so they could see Zac's trophy.
